Software package Developer Arrested in Computer Sabotage Case
A software developer has been arrested and faces costs for allegedly inserting destructive code on his employer’s laptop servers, the Justice Office stories.
A federal grand jury in Cleveland returned an indictment charging Davis Lu, 51, of Houston, Texas, with a person count of harmful safeguarded pcs.
Officials say Lu was employed as a senior developer with an unnamed enterprise primarily based in Cleveland. In August 2019, the organization was the victim of a denial of support (DoS) attack when production servers crashed and employees were being unable to access the servers. The indictment says an investigation observed unauthorized code set up on the server, which triggered that server to produce an infinite loop and crash.
Lu was asked to return his firm-issued pc. Officers say right before he did, he deleted encrypted volumes and tried to delete Linux directories as properly as two additional projects. He also allegedly searched the Online for facts on how to escalate privileges, disguise processes, and delete huge folders and/or files.
The corporation states it suffered a reduction of at least $5,000. Lu has not still entered a plea.
