WASHINGTON, July 5 (Reuters) – The hackers suspected to be driving a mass ransomware assault that influenced hundreds of firms around the globe late on Sunday demanded $70 million to restore the facts, in accordance to a publishing on a dark world wide web website.

The demand from customers was posted on a web page commonly utilised by the REvil cybercrime gang, a Russia-linked team that is counted among the cybercriminal world’s most prolific extortionists.

The gang has an affiliate construction, sometimes building it complicated to figure out who speaks on the hackers’ behalf, but Allan Liska of cybersecurity agency Recorded Long term claimed the message “pretty much undoubtedly” came from REvil’s main management.
